Project Highlight- The Empty Nest Storage Room
On to my second blog post! I have a few categories in mind for what I want to do with this blog and one of them is highlighting some of my successful projects so you guys can see the potential for your own spaces. This first one tackles a pretty hefty job but the reward was so worth it and it really set the groundwork for more organization throughout the house.
Organized storage spaces are essential to keeping a house in harmony. These spaces will look different for each home but typically include utility rooms, closets, crawl spaces and garages. This project was a massive storage room that had collected decorations, sentimental items and workout equipment for a few decades. With the kids grown and out of the house, it was time to re-purpose the room to fit the homeowner’s needs.
The best thing about this space was that it already had built in shelving (that wasn’t being used) which was perfect for storing labeled totes. We cleared out everything and sorted through what to keep, what to donate and what to toss. In the end we had a huge, open and functional storage space that allowed the homeowner to quickly locate decor and properly store sentimental items. We even had leftover empty totes to use in other rooms of the house which made the project even more budget friendly.
If you're thinking about jumping into the process of organization, storage spaces are the best place to start. You need a good space to relocate nonessential items and it will help keep your more precious items safe and secure. No job is too big! And I'm going to try really hard not to channel my mom sense to finish that with a Paw Patrol quote.
